Diesel and Dust Album is by Midnight Oil. Released in August 1987, it is the sixth by the Spirit Music label under Columbia Records. The Diesel and Dust album as a whole is both a concept and a theme about the struggles that indigenous Australians face. It also touches on issues to do with the environment.
The first track on the album is ” Beds Are Burning “, released in 1987 as the band’s second single; it is one of the best-known songs outside their native Australia.
The single was a massive success for Midnight Oil, making Number One in New Zealand, South Africa and Canada.
It reached number three in the Netherlands, five in France, six in the United Kingdom and Australia, eleven in Ireland and seventeen in the United States and Sweden.
” Beds Are Burning ” is one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
The Diesel and Dust album was an instant success, peaking at Number One in Australia, spending six weeks at the top. It also topped charts in New Zealand and Germany.
In the United Kingdom, the album peaked at number nineteen on the UK Albums Chart.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked the Diesel and Dust album at number thirteen in on their Top 100 Best Albums of the 1980s. It also managed the top spot in the book of Top 100 Best Australian Albums in 2010.

Midnight Oil is an Australian rock band. They initially called themselves Farm but changed their name to Midnight Oil after drawing the name out of a hat.
Formed in 1975 in Sidney, New South Wales, Australia, the original line-up consisted of Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie, Martin Rotsey and Bones Hillman, law student Peter Garrett joined later as lead vocalist.
To date, Midnight Oil album releases are eleven studio, three live, three compilation and four videos. They have also released forty singles and three Extended Plays.
As of 2006, they had sold over twelve million units worldwide.
