About Van Halen
Van Halen is an American rock group. They formed in 1972 in Pasadena, a city situated in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Van Halen’s core members consisted of Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony.
During the early part of the 1980s, they became one of the most successful rock acts of that era. The band’s popularity owed much to the guitar playing of Eddie Van Halen and the on-stage antics of lead vocalist David Lee Roth. However tensions reached a breaking point when Eddie Van Halen began exercising more control over the musical direction, David Lee Roth left the line-up on in April 1985.
He was replaced by American singer-songwriter and former frontman of rock band Montrose, Sammy Hagar, who departed Van Halen in June 1996. Gary Cherone became their next lead singer, replacing Sammy Hagar who went on to pursue a solo career at the time.
Gary Cherone was the frontman of Extreme, a Boston-based band that has sold over 10 million albums globally and at their height in the 1990s were one of the most successful rock bands. Unlike the two previous lead vocalists, Gary Cherone left amicably and remains friends with the band members.
Van Halen took a break in 1999 and since have reunited several times with past members. Their current line-up consists of Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen and Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of band member Eddie.
