Architecture and Morality Album is by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark ( OMD ). It was released on the 8th of November 1981 as their third album. It received critical acclaim, with many regarding it as a masterpiece. Over the years the album featured on numerous best Albums lists.
There were three internationally successful singles released with combined sales of over eight million. Architecture & Morality also became a success. By 2007 worldwide sales were over 4 million copies.
The lead single, ” Souvenir “, was released on the 4th of August 1981. The track was not liked by Andy McCluskey, but it was released with co-writer Paul Humphreys providing lead vocals.
The single was very successful for OMD. In the United Kingdom ” Souvenir ” entered the UK Singles Chart on the 29th of August 1981, reaching a peak of number three. It spent five weeks in the Top Ten and twelve weeks on the UK chart. The song shares a number three chart position with their 1991 single, ” Sailing on the Seven Seas “.
Outside of the United Kingdom, the song reached Number One in both Spain and Portugal.
The Architecture and Morality album was a commercial success for OMD. In the band’s native United Kingdom it reached number three on the UK Albums Chart.
Architecture and Morality topped the chart in the Netherlands, number twenty-one in France, sixteen in Austria, eighteen in Canada, twenty-two in New Zealand, twenty-eight in Sweden and number sixty-two in Australia.

About Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark ( OMD ) are an English electronic music band formed in 1978 in Wirral, Merseyside, England.
The Band was founded by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys along with Martin Cooper and Stuart Kershaw; Andy McCluskey is the only member of the original line-up to stay constant throughout the band’s time.
Their self-titled debut album was released on the 22nd of February 1980. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at number twenty-seven on the UK Albums Chart.
To date, OMD’s album releases are thirteen Studio, six live, eight Video and five Compilations. They have also released thirty-nine singles, two Extended Plays and forty-five music videos.
Since the late 1970s, they have become known as music innovators and to date have sold over 40 million records.
