The album was met with mixed reviews from critics, with some commended her vocal performance, while others criticised the use of vocoder, a technology that is often used in music production to synthesise the human voice.
A departure from Cher’s previous work, it contains styles of dance-pop, Eurodance, techno, house, disco and Latin.
The Believe album had three Grammy nominations, winning one for Best Dance Recording.
The lead single, ” Believe “, was released on the 19th of October 1998 and became a massive success, reaching the top in almost every country it charted, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Germany, Italy and the United States.
The single earned Cher a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest female solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. ” Believe ” also became the highest-selling single by a solo female artist in the United Kingdom. The song remains one of the best-selling singles of all time, with worldwide sales of over 11 million copies.
The Believe Album was a commercial success. In the United States, it reached number four on the Billboard 200.
The Album topped the charts in Austria, Canada, Denmark, Germany, New Zealand and Portugal. Believe charted within the Top Ten in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and the United Kingdom.

As a multi-award-winning recording artist, Cher has won a Grammy, Emmy, Academy, three Golden Globes, Cannes Film Festival Award and a special CFDA ( Council of Fashion Designers of America ) Fashion Award.
She is one of the best-selling music artists in music history. To date, her record sales are over 100 Million Worldwide. Cher is the only artist to have a Billboard Number One in each decade from the 1960s to the 2010s.
