Bon Jovi Album is by Bon Jovi, the American rock band. Their self-titled debut album was released on the 21st of January 1984 under the record labels Mercury in the United States and Vertigo within Europe.
The album was produced by Lance Quinn and Tony Bongiovi, the American producer and cousin of lead singer Jon Bon Jovi. He has worked with the likes of Gloria Gaynor, Talking Heads, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy Osbourne and the Ramones.
All but one of the fourteen tracks were written or co-written by members of Bon Jovi, with the track “She Don’t Know Me” written by Mark Avsec, best known for being a member of Wild Cherry who had a hit with “Play That Funky Music” in 1976.
The album has received mostly positive reviews. Writing a retrospective review for Sputnickmusic user, ReturnToRock said that “The playing is focused, the vocals are self-assured and pleasant. “
Leslie Mathew writing for AllMusic awarded the Bon Jovi album four and a half stars out of five. The reviewer called the songs simple and felt the “writing prone to all clich├ęs “, but added that “the album boasts a pretty consistent hard rock attack, passionate playing, and a keen sense of melody. “
The Bon Jovi album has been awarded Platinum status in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of over one million copies. It has also been certified Platinum in Switzerland for fifty thousand copies.
In the United Kingdom, the album has been certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry for sales of sixty thousand, and in Canada, it has gone Gold for over fifty thousand copies sold.
The lead single, “Runaway “, was released in the United States in February 1983. Written by Jon Bon Jovi and George Karak, the song Was entered into a contest held by local radio station WAPP 103.5FM, which it won. The single went on to become a radio hit that year.
Lyrically the song is about a young girl who is forced to run away from home. The video for the single cost the band thousands of dollars in production costs. Years later, Jon Bon Jovi revealed that the record company was happy that the expenses were “recoupable “, meaning the band had to pay all the costs associated with it.
The song became a chart success for the band. In the United States, the single reached a peak of number thirty-nine on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Bon Jovi album went on to be a commercial success for Bon Jovi. The highest position for the album was New Zealand where it peaked at number eighteen for one week and stayed ten weeks on the chart. In Australia, the album just made the Top Forty, peaking at number thirty-nine.
On the Japanese Oricon LPs Chart, it reached number thirty-eight, and in Spain, it peaked at twenty-four.
In the United States, the album reached number forty-three on the billboard 200 and in the United Kingdom, the Bon Jovi album peaked at seventy-one.

Bon Jovi is an American rock group. They formed in 1983 in Sayreville, a borough situated on the Raritan River, in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States.
Bon Jovi is made up of Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, Tico Torres, Phil X and Hugh McDonald. Past member Alec John Such was removed in 1994 and in 2013 co-songwriter, and lead guitarist Richie Sambora left after thirty-years to spend more time with his family.
Bon Jovi released their first two albums in 1984 and 1985, with both reaching in the lower regions of the charts.

As a multi-award-winning recording artist, Bon Jovi has won many awards including one Grammy, two American Music, one Billboard Music, one Brit Award, two CMT Music, two MTV Europe Music, two MTV Video Music and two World Music.
