Call Off The Search Album is by Katie Melua, the jazz and blues singer and songwriter.

The album was produced by Mike Batt, the English singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. Although best known in the United Kingdom for the hit singles by The Wombles, Mike Batt has worked with Steeleye Span, Linda Lewis, The Hollies, Alvin Stardust, Vanessa Mae, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Sydney Symphony and Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra.
Call Off The Search Album features twelve tracks that explore everyday experiences, with lyrics that the listener can identify within their your own life.
Out of the Call Off The Search album’s twelve tracks, Katie recorded two that she wrote. The remaining tracks were written by Mike Batt, John Mayall, Delores J. Silver, Randy Newman and James Shelton.
A commercially successful debut album, it has sales of over 1.9 million copies in the United Kingdom. The British Phonographic Industry ( BPI ) has certified it 6x Platinum.
The album has also been certified Platinum in Australia, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and New Zealand. In Denmark, the album has been certified 3x Platinum with 2x Platinum in Germany.
The first single ( and debut ) from the album, ” The Closest Thing to Crazy “, was released on the 1st of December 2003.
It was written and produced by Mike Batt, originally featured first on his album Arabesque, released in 1995.
Lyrically the song asks rhetorical questions and describes the conflicting emotions that being in love involves.
” The Closest Thing to Crazy ” became a successful debut release for Katie Melua. In the United Kingdom, the single entered the UK singles chart on the 13th of December 2003 and peaked at number ten. It spent one week inside the Top Ten and twenty weeks on the UK chart.
Elsewhere the single reached number eight in Ireland, ten in Scotland, forty-nine in Germany, forty-one in the Netherlands, fifteen in Norway and forty-five in Australia.
The Call Off The Search album became a massive hit for Katie Melua. In the United Kingdom, it hit the top spot on the UK Albums Chart, holding Number One for six weeks. It spent fifteen weeks in the Top Ten and one hundred weeks in the Top 100.
It peaked inside the top ten in Germany, Ireland, Norway, New Zealand and Denmark, where it topped the chart there.

Ketevan ‘ Katie ‘ Melua was born on the 16th of September 1984 in Kutaisi, the third most populous city in Georgia. It was at the time part of the Soviet Union.
In 1993, when Katie was eight years old, she, along with her family relocated to Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Her first career choice wasn’t music but history or politics, due to her upbringing in Georgia and Belfast, both of which experienced political upheaval.
She met Mike Batt while still at school, he was to become her producer and manager. From there, her career took off. In 2006, Katie became both the best-selling female artist in the United Kingdom and the highest selling European female artist.
To date, Katie Melua’s Album releases are seven studio, one live album, two compilations and two video albums. She has also released one Extended Play and thirteen singles.
As a multi-award-winning recording artist, Katie Melua has won two ECHO Awards and one Goldene Kamera. She has been nominated for two BRIT Awards.
