Definitely Maybe Album is by Oasis, the English rock band. The group’s debut album was released on the 29th of August 1994 by record label Creation, the independent label now defunct, was founded in 1983 by Alan McGee, Dick Green and Joe Foster.
Definitely Maybe was recorded between November 1993 and April 1994 at the Monnow Valley Studio in Rockfield, a small village in Monmouthshire, Wales. The studio has played host to many recording artists since the 1970s including The Charlatans, Manic Street Preachers, Queen, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Portishead and Iggy Pop.
Working with producer Dave Batchelor at the studio was costing the band eight hundred pounds a day, the sessions did not go the way the group wanted them to and after a trip to Amsterdam Oasis set about re-recording the album, this time at Sawmills Studio near the village of Golant in Cornwall.
The second attempt at the album was produced by Noel Gallagher and Mark Coyle. The members realised the only way to reproduce their live sound on record was to remove the soundproofing used between their instruments. Noel then overdubbed further guitars.
The second attempt at the recording was still felt to be unsatisfactory, so the band turned to Welsh record producer, Owen Morris, who took away Noel’s guitar overdubs. Definitely Maybe was then mastered in Manchester at the Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr’s studio.
Once released, the album was met with critical acclaim, with many noting the skills of lead guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher along with the vocal delivery of his brother, Liam.

Oasis were an English rock band. Formed in Manchester in 1991, the members were Liam and Noel Gallagher, Paul ‘ Bonehead ‘ Arthurs, Paul ‘ Guigsy ‘ McGuigan, Tony.
Called Rain in the beginning, after a Beatles single B-side, the band didn’t feature the Gallagher brothers, who joined later. Liam suggested a name change, choosing Oasis, which was inspired by a tour poster for Inspiral Carpets which Liam had seen.
Their early gigs were often turbulent, with Liam baiting the audience and constant fighting on and off stage between the brothers Gallagher becoming the stuff of music legend.
In 1993, Oasis persuaded a promoter to allow them to perform at King Tut’s Wah Hut in the Scottish city of Glasgow. Present in the club was record label creator Alan McGee. He’d heard of their reputation and had every intention to avoid them, however after hearing two songs; he was ready to sign them to his label.
The band went from strength to strength from then on, with their first gig in London selling out in minutes. A record-breaking audience of over 200,000 at the Knebworth festival in 1996 meant that the band had gone from a minor support act to international stars.
In 2009, the tension between Noel and Liam got worse with Noel announcing to the press that he was leaving the band. The remaining members continued as Beady Eye, led by Liam Gallagher they finally disbanded in 2014. Noel continued to record and perform under the name Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
To date, Oasis’ Album releases are seven studio, one live album, five compilations and six video albums. They also released one Extended Play, twenty-nine singles, nineteen promotional singles and thirty-seven videos.
