Dreamchaser Album is by Sarah Brightman, the English soprano. Her eleventh studio album was released under the record label Simha LLC ( under license to Universal Music Group ) on the 16th of January 2013 in Japan and on the 8th of April 2013 in the United Kingdom and the United States.
The Dreamchaser album, a classical crossover built around the concept of space, was the first time she’d worked with Mike Hedges, the English record producer and engineer. As a producer, he has worked with a variety of artists from a diverse range of musical genres, including like Russell Watson, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Camilla Kerslake, U2, Dido, Manic Street Preachers, Travis and Texas.
The album received positive reviews in the music press upon release, with many praising Sarah Brightman’s vocal delivery. Thom Jurek writing for AllMusic liked the album, commenting that ” Despite some missteps, Brightman stretches her comfort zone again, ” adding ” she gets points for even attempting some of these songs. ” He praised Sarah Brightman by concluding ” That she pulls off her most daring choices is a testament to her artistry. ” Stephen Unwin, writing for the online version of the British newspaper the Express gave it 4/5 calling it ” a beautiful, beautiful album. ”
The inspiration for the Dreamchaser album came after Sarah Brightman’s decision to become the first singer to venture into space. Working in partnership with Space Adventures, a space tourism company based in the US state of Virginia, she was to visit the International Space Station ( ISS ). However, the mission was aborted by Sarah Brightman due to personal reasons in March 2015.
The lead single ” Angel “, was released in Europe and Mexico on the 15th of October 2012 and on the 24th of October 2012 in Japan. ” Angel ” is a cover of a 2001 song originally sung by Sally Herbert, the British string arranger, record producer, songwriter and violinist. After touring with The Communards, she formed Banderas with Caroline Buckley.
The Dreamchaser album became a commercial success for Sarah Brightman. In the United States, the album peaked at number seventeen on the 4th of May 2013 and spent two weeks on the Billboard 200. It topped the Billboard Classical Albums Chart for one week on the 4th of May 2013 and spent thirty-one weeks on the chart there, making the album her seventh to do so. The album also reached number three on the Top Independent Albums Chart, her first record to enter that chart.
In the United Kingdom, the Dreamchaser album entered the UK Albums Chart on the 20th of April 2013 and peaked at number fifty-eight, spending one week on the UK chart.
In Australia, Sarah Brightman took the album to the top of the ARIA Classical Albums Chart and ninety-eight on the mainstream albums. The album peaked inside of the Top Forty in Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Japan, Mexico and South Korea.
About Sarah Brightman
Sarah Brightman, the English classical crossover soprano, was born on the 14th of August 1960 in the market town of Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England. The eldest of six children, she started to sing and dance aged three.
Not only is Sarah Brightman the biggest selling Soprano globally, but she is also a songwriter, actress, dancer and musician. Known for her vocal range of over three octaves, Sarah Brightman helped pioneer the classical crossover movement, a music category she dislikes. Her personal influences include musicians from the 60s and 70s, with many of her recordings incorporating aspects of pop, rock and classical.
She made her theatrical debut in 1973 at the Piccadilly Theatre, London, playing the role of Victoria, one of Queen Victoria’s daughters in the musical I and Albert. Sarah Brightman later joined Hot Gossip, the dance troupe. In 1978 they had a hit with ” I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper “, which reached the Top Ten in the UK and sold half a million copies.
In 1981, she made her West End musical theatre debut in Cats and later went on to star in several Broadway musicals, including Song and Dance, The Phantom of the Opera and Aspects of Love.
Sarah Brightman’s debut album, The Trees They Grow So High, was released in 1988. The album, which consisted of European folk songs, reached number 135 on the Japanese Albums Chart. To date, Sarah Brightman’s Album releases are eleven studio, three live albums, six compilations and eight video albums. She has also released forty singles, eight collaborations and six cast recordings.
As a multi-award-winning recording artist, Sarah Brightman has won two Echo, one RSH Gold, one Golden Lion, one Czechoslovakian Grammy and two Arabian Music awards. She was nominated for a Grammy in 1986 for Best New Classical Artist.
She is the recipient of over 180 Platinum and Gold disc awards in over forty different countries including the United States, Australia, Japan, United Kingdom, China, Mexico, Canada and Germany.
On the 2nd of June 2016, Sarah Brightman was awarded the prestigious Italian decoration ‘ Cavaliere ’ in the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. The ceremony, held at the Consulate General of Italy in New York City, was hosted by Francesco Genuardi, the Consul General of Italy.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution to music and theatre, Sarah Brightman was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Arts (Hon DArt) by the University of Hertfordshire on the 10th of September 2018. The honorary award was bestowed during the commencement at St Albans Cathedral in Hertfordshire, England.
