About La La Land

The La La Land film was released to cinemas in 2016 by Summit Entertainment ( owned by Lionsgate ) and starred Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.
The American romantic musical comedy-drama was written and directed by award-winning Damien Chazelle, who also wrote and directed Whiplash in 2014.
The screenplay for the film was written back in 2010; however, due to problems finding a studio willing to fund the project without changes, it was shelved. Following the success of Whiplash, the screenplay was taken on by Summit Entertainment.
La La Land had a production budget of just $30 Million, at the box office, it went on to gross over 150 million dollars in the United States and Canada with worldwide box office receipts of over 440 million dollars worldwide.
The movie follows the journey of Sebastian, a struggling jazz musician and Mia, an actress. The two fall in love after several meetings in Los Angeles that happen purely by chance. As their relationship blossoms, their career ambitions force both of them to make some decisions that impact their relationship.
The film took its name from a slang term used in America which is used to describe Los Angeles and Hollywood. According to the Collins English Dictionary, the phrase has the meaning of ” a place that is remote from reality ” in the United Kingdom.
La La Land has gone on to become a multi-award-winning film; it received more than any movie of 2016 at the 70th British Academy Film Awards with eleven nominations. The categories it won awards in were Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress in a Leading Role for Emma Stone, Best Cinematography and Best Film Music.
On the 8th of January 2017 at the 74th Golden Globe Awards, held at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, La La Land had seven nominations, winning all the categories. The film set a record at the ceremony for the most awards won by a single movie. The categories were Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director, Best Actor – Comedy or Musical for Ryan Gosling, Best Actress – Comedy or Musical for Emma Stone, Best Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Original Song ” City of Stars “.
At the Oscars, hosted at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, La La Land gained six awards: Best Director, Best Actress for Emma Stone, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Original Song for ” City of Stars ” and Best Production Design.
The film had fourteen nominations, which is equal to those of the 1950 American drama movie, All About Eve, and James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster Titanic.
The ceremony was nearly overshadowed by a gaff which resulted in La La Land being wrongly announced as the winner of the Best Picture category, when in fact the winner was Moonlight, the American coming of age drama directed by Barry Jenkins and starring Trevante Rhodes.
