Life in Cartoon Motion Album is by Mika, the British singer-songwriter. The first album by Mika was released in the United Kingdom by Island Records on the 5th of February 2007 and later on the 27th of March by Casablanca Records in the United States.
The Life in Cartoon Motion Album received mixed reviews from critics. The original UK and European version of the album contain twelve songs with additional hidden tracks ” Over My Shoulder ” and ” Ring Ring “, a bonus track. There are also links to music videos and live performances by Mika. The US version of the album includes the track ” Erase ” which was not included in the original release in the UK or Europe.
The lead single, ” Grace Kelly ” was released on the 8th of January 2007. The lyrics are about Mika’s need for individuality while the melody is based on Gioachino Rossini’s ” Largo al factotum “, one of the arias from opera The Barber of Seville. The single was a commercial success. In the United States, it reached a peak of number fifty-seven on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. In the United Kingdom, the single entered the UK Singles Chart at number three, and after a week on the chart it had reached the top spot, spending five weeks there. It also went to Number One in the Czech Republic, Ireland, Italy, Norway and Turkey.
Although Life in Cartoon Motion Album charted in most European countries, it had the most success in the United Kingdom and France. In the UK it debuted at Number One with sales of 1,650,000 units. In France, the album made Number One with sales of 1,450,000. In the United States, it peaked at number twenty-nine on the Billboard 200 Chart and reached number two in Canada. The Album has sold over 7.9 million copies globally and has received Gold and Platinum awards in thirty-two countries worldwide.
Michael Holbrook Penniman, Jr. was born in Beirut on the 18th of August 1983. Known professionally as Mika, he is a Lebanese-born English singer and songwriter. Mika speaks fluent French, Spanish and Italian. He has often been compared to the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, a comparison that may upset die-hard fans of the rock legends. His first release in 2006, ” Relax, Take It Easy ” was a limited 7″ single and digital download. The single reached number fourteen on the Digital Downloads Chart in the United States and had success elsewhere, reaching the top in Poland, Netherlands, France, Czech Republic and Belgium. In the United Kingdom, the single peaked at number eighteen on the UK Singles Chart. To date, Mika’s Album releases are four studio and two videos. He has also released four extended plays, twenty-two singles and sixteen music videos. As an award-winning recording artist, Mika has won a BBC Sound in 2007 and a 2009 MTV Europe Music Award. As of 2017, his worldwide sales are 20 million records.
