Out of the Blue Album is by Debbie Gibson, the American singer, songwriter, producer and actress.
Her debut album was released on the 18th of August 1987 under the record label Atlantic, now part of Warner Music Group.
It was produced by Fred Zarr, Debbie Gibson, John Morales, Sergio Munzibai and Lewis A. Martineé.
The Out of the Blue album was recorded between 1986 and 1987 at Z Studios, Sorcerer Sound and Right Track in New York, Debbie Gibson also used International Sound in Miami Florida.
Debbie Gibson wrote all of the ten tracks featured. The album became a hugely successful debut for the singer.
In the United States, the Out of the Blue album sold three million copies and has been certified 3x Platinum by the Recording Association of America ( RIAA ).
The album has also been certified Gold in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom for sales of 10,000 and 100,000 copies respectively. Worldwide sales are over five million.
The album has received positive reviews from music critics and fans alike. In a retrospective review for AllMusic, Steve Huey commented that the record ” stands out from the competition. ” Adding ” it’s some of the best teen pop you’re likely to hear.”
A user, writing for Rateyourmusic in 2006, awarded the album a full five stars and said it had ” catchy pop songs “, adding that ” maybe cheesy today, but better than most current pop acts. “
The lead single, ” Only in My Dreams “, was released on the 16th of December 1986. It was written by Debbie Gibson with production by Fred Zarr.
The song, written two years previously, it is about a girl trying to get the man of her dreams to notice her, when he does she realises it was only a dream.
” Only in My Dreams ” became a chart hit. In the United States, the single reached number four on the 5th of September 1987 and spent twenty-eight weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
The album became a successful release for Debbie Gibson. In the United States, the album peaked at number seven on the 27th of February 1988 and spent eighty-nine weeks on the Billboard 200.
In the United Kingdom, the Out of the Blue album entered the UK Singles chart on the 30th of January 1988 and reached number twenty-six. It spent eleven weeks in the Top forty and thirty-five weeks in the Top 100.
The album also reached twenty-two in Canada, twenty-three in New Zealand, forty-eight in Holland, thirty-four in Sweden and seventy-five in Japan.
