Pain Killer Album is by Little Big Town, the American country music band. The album, their sixth studio production, was released on the 21st of October 2014 by the record label, Capitol Nashville, part of Universal Music Group Nashville.
The members of the group co-wrote eight out of the thirteen tracks featured on the album. Production for Pain Killer was by Jay Joyce, the American record producer, songwriter and musician, who has worked with many artists including The Wallflowers, Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin and Cage the Elephant.
The Pain Killer album has a fusion of country-rock with electronic production and reggae, a move away from than their previous releases. Some fans have compared the style of some of the songs featured to those of Fleetwood Mac.
In 2015, Little Big Town was nominated for Album of the Year by both the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association, in 2016 they were nominated for a Grammy award for Best Country Album, which Chris Stapleton won for Traveller, his Billboard 200 chart topper.
The lead single, ” Day Drinking ” was released on the 9th of June 2014 to positive reviews. The mid-tempo song was written by Barry Dean and Troy Verges and three of the band’s members Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Jimi Westbrook.
Lyrically it is about not needing to wait until later in the day or need an excuse to have a drink, so the song suggests indulging in some ” day drinking. ”
The single found some success on the charts in the United States. It entered the Billboard Country Airplay Chart at number thirty-two and peaked at number two. Other Billboard Chart positions were four on the Billboard Hot Country Songs and forty on the Hot 100. In Canada, ” Day Drinking ” peaked at number fifty 0n the Canadian Hot 100 and it topped the Canadian Billboard Chart.
The Pain Killer album had success in the United States, where it peaked on the Billboard 200 at number seven and reached number three on the Top Country Albums Chart.
The album sold 42,000 copies in the first week of release. As of January 2017, it has sales of 511,300 copies in the country. The Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ) has certified Pain Killer Platinum for sales of over one million combined sales of physical and album-equivalent units ( 1 Album = 10 downloads or 1500 song streams ).
Little Big Town also had success in Canada; there the album reached number forty-nine. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at 143 and two on the UK Albums and UK Country Albums respectively.
