Parallel Lines Album is by Blondie. It was released in September 1978 by Chrysalis Records ( UK Independent record company/ US Universal Music Group ) as the group’s third album.
Although Blondie had success in the United Kingdom and Australia with their previous releases, they were regarded as an underground band in the United States until the release of the album.
In Billboard magazine, the album was listed at number nine in the Top Pop Albums year-end chart of 1979. As of 2008, Parallel Lines has worldwide sales of over 20 million.
The lead single, ” Picture This “, was released in August 1978. The single was not released in the United States. The lyrics were written by Debbie Harry with the music composed by Chris Stein and former member Jimmy Destri.
The single entered the UK Singles Chart on the 26th of August 1978 and reached a peak of number twelve. In Ireland, it reached number thirteen and peaked at fifteen in Sweden.
The Parallel Lines album was a success for Blondie. In the United States, the album proved to be the band’s breakthrough, going on to peak at number six on the Billboard 200 Chart in April of 1979. It spent 103 weeks on the chart there.
In the United Kingdom, the album reached Number One in the February of 1979 and spent four weeks at the top.
The Parallel Lines album reached number two in Australia and Canada, twenty-four in Austria, seven in the Netherlands, nine in Germany, three in New Zealand, sixteen in Norway and nine in Sweden.
Blondie is an American rock band. Founded in New York city by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein, the name comes from shouts of ” Hey, Blondie ” by truck drivers.
The band were pioneers in the early American new wave and punk scenes of the middle to the late 70s. To date, Blondie’s album releases are eleven studio, four live, fourteen compilations, seven videos and three remixes.They have released thirty-eight singles and thirty-six music videos.
The band’s albums sales are an estimated 40 million. Blondie has won or been nominated for many awards including a Grammy, Juno, Q Music and NME. In 2006 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
