Please Please Me Album The Beatles Rock music

Please Please Me Album is by The Beatles, who were a British rock band. Their debut album was released on the 22nd of March 1963 under the record label Parlophone, now part of Warner Music Group.
The album features fourteen tracks, a mixture of originals and covers, with John Lennon and Paul McCartney writing eight of the songs.
The Please Please Me album was recorded on the 11th of September 1963 and the 11th and 20th of February 1964 at the EMI Recording Studios, London, which later became the famous Abbey Road.
The album was produced by George Martin, who was an English producer, arranger, composer and musician.
Due to his extensive input with the group, he became known as the ‘ fifth Beatle ‘. As a producer, his work was responsible for thirty chart-topping singles in the United Kingdom and twenty-three in the United States. In addition to his work with The Beatles, the multi-Grammy award-winning producer also worked with Matt Monro, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Ella Fitzgerald and Kate Bush.
Ten of the fourteen tracks laid down by the group were completed in one day. They were recorded onto a two-track and mixed into mono and a rudimentary form of stereo. At the time, mono was their preferred version as the band felt it was a more realistic representation of their work.
The cost to the record company of the day’s session amounted to £400, about £8,000 in today’s money. However, the four members were paid for recording, as under the terms of the Musicians Union, they earned £7 10s for each of the day’s sessions, equivalent to about £157 in 2019.
The Please Please Me album became a successful debut for the four members. In the United States, it has been certified Platinum for sales of over one million.
In the United Kingdom, it has been certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry ( BPI ) for 100,000 copies sold. The album has also gained a Gold disc in Australia and Canada for sales of 35,000 and 50,000 respectively.
Since the release, music critics have given positive reviews. In his retrospective review for the online version of the British newspaper, The Telegraph, Neil McCormick commented on the mixture of music styles writing that the album ” reflects the wide range of The Beatles tastes “.
Neonmoderntimes called it ” one of the best debut albums of all time “, adding that ” it remains one of the easiest and most accessible Beatles albums to listen to “.
The title track, ” Please Please Me “, was released on the 11th of January 1963 in the United Kingdom and the 7th of February 1963 in the United States.
Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, it was produced by George Martin. Inspired by a Roy Orbison song, it was written by John Lennon in the bedroom of his aunt’s house.
In the United States, the single peaked at number three on the 22nd of February 1964 ( second release ) and spent ten weeks in the Top Forty.

About The Beatles

The Beatles were an English rock group. The most famous lineup consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
The origin of the band goes back to 1957 when Paul McCartney auditioned for a guitarist position with John Lennon’s Skiffle group, The Quarrymen.
Within twelve months, George Harrison and Stuart Sutcliffe had joined to form the foursome. Sutcliffe left to study at the Hamburg College of Art. He died on the 10th of April 1962 from a brain haemorrhage.
Lennon, McCartney and Harrison were joined by a succession of drummers, including Pete Best, who was later sacked.
He was replaced in 1962 by Ringo Starr, completing the lineup of the most successful and musically influential band of all time.
Under the direction of manager Brian Epstein and producer George Martin, The Beatles quickly found chart success and started to gain a following which grew to become the phenomenon, Beatlemania.
The four members, with their clean-cut image and radio-friendly songs, have been credited with influencing the evolution of popular music.
Their compositions incorporated many musical styles including classical, rock and psychedelia. They also drew inspiration from different cultures, especially for their later output.
Their 60s success in the United Kingdom and abroad led the way for the ” British invasion ” of the United States. Many British bands like The Rolling Stones, the Who, the Kinks and Herman’s Hermits would follow.
Lennon and McCartney were prolific songwriters with over 180 songs published by 1969. Some of the material written by the two became chart-toppers for other artists. By 1965, there were 1,920 cover versions of their songs.
John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr received an MBE ( Most Excellent Order of the British Empire ) in 1965 from Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace, London.
In 1970, The Beatles broke-up. All four members went on to achieve success as solo artists.
On the 8th of December 1980, John Lennon was shot by fan Mark Chapman in New York City, United States. He was forty years old.
George Harrison died from cancer at the age of fifty-eight on the 29th of November 2001 in Los Angeles, California.
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are still actively recording and releasing new music.
The Beatles are the best-selling band in music history. It has been estimated that their worldwide album sales are over 800 million.
In the United States, they have sold over 178 million units. With twenty Number One singles, The Beatles hold the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers.
The group have had more chart-topping albums in the United Kingdom than any other band or solo artist.
They have also sold more singles than any other in the country. In 1963, their disc sales exceeded seven million in the UK alone.
In 1988, the group were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Between 1994 and 2015, they were inducted individually.
To date, The Beatle’s Album releases are thirteen studio, five live albums, fifty-three Compilations and fifteen video albums. They also released twenty-one Extended Plays, sixty-three singles, sixty-four music videos and fifteen box sets.
