Rainbow Album is by Kesha, the American singer, songwriter and actress. The album, her third, was released on the 11th of August 2017 by record labels RCA Records and Kemosabe, both owned by Sony Music Entertainment.
Although the Primary focus of the record is pop music, Rainbow blends elements of different musical genres like pop rock, glam rock and country pop.
When writing for the album, Kesha was inspired by the country music legend Dolly Parton; she also was influenced by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys and 70s glam rockers Sweet and T. Rex.
Rainbow, which met with critical acclaim, is a departure from Animal and Warrior, her first two studio albums, both of which were more electropop in composition.
For this album, Kesha collaborated with Dolly Parton, American rock band Eagles of Death Metal and The Dap-Kings Horns, who feature on the third track ” Woman “.
The album has been certified Gold by Music Canada ( formerly known as the Canadian Recording Industry Association ) and the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ) for sales of 40,000 and 500,000 respectively.
The lead single, ” Praying “, was released on the 6th of July 2017. The single received favourable reviews with some giving praise for Kesha’s vocal delivery.
There were different interpretations by critics of the message contained in the lyrics, with some feeling that ” Praying ” was about forgiving, others, however, felt the track was about anger Kesha was feeling.
The single became a commercial success. In the United States, it reached number twenty-two on the Billboard Hot 100.
It has also charted inside the Top Ten in Australia and the Netherlands. Elsewhere Kesha has taken the song into the Top Forty in Belgium, Canada, Hungary, Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom.
The Rainbow album is a successful release for Kesha. In the United States, the album made its debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, selling 117,000 album-equivalent units ( 1 Album = 10 downloads or 1500 song streams ), which 90,000 were physical album sales. It also topped the chart in Canada.
In the United Kingdom, the album entered the UK Albums Chart and peaked at number four. Rainbow also made it into the Top Twenty in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland, Spain and Switzerland.
In 2018, Rainbow was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, held on the 28th of January in Madison Square Garden, New York City. It was Kesha’s first Grammy nomination.
Kesha Rose Sebert was born on the 1st of March 1987 in Los Angeles, California, United States. She went under the stylised name of Ke$ha, later dropping the dollar sign.
Kesha is a vegetarian and an activist for animal rights. She actively supports causes for LGBT ( lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender ) awareness.
Her debut album, Animal, released in January 2010, made it to the top of the charts in eleven countries. In the United States, the album topped the Billboard Hot 100 for nine consecutive weeks.
To date, Kesha’s Album releases are three studio and one Compilation. She has also released two Extended Plays and sixteen singles.
As a multi-award-winning recording artist, Kesha has won many awards including one Billboard Music, one Billboard Women in Music, five BMI Pop and one MTV Europe Music Award.
As of November 2013, Kesha’s sales are more than 59 million records in the United States with sales of over 76 million records Worldwide.
