Songs About Jane Album is by Maroon 5, the American rock band. It was released by record labels Octone and J Records on the 25th of June 2002 as the band’s debut studio album.
Maroon 5 recorded Songs About Jane between 2001 and 2002 at the Rumbo Recorders studio in Los Angeles. The studio was set up in 1979 by Daryl Dragon, better known as the ‘ Captain ‘ of successful recording duo, Captain & Tennille.
Daryl, with his then-wife, Toni Tennille, won Record of the Year for ” Love Will Keep Us Together ” at the 1975 Grammy Awards. Rumbo Recorders was made up of three studios and covered 10,000 square feet, it was located in Canoga Park, in the San Fernando Valley, California. A variety of artists had performed there over the years including Paula Abdul, Celine Dion, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, Ringo Starr and Guns N’ Roses.
All the tracks on the Songs About Jane album were written or co-written by Adam Levine, Maroon 5’s lead singer. The album was produced by Matt Wallace, the American record producer, with additional production and mixing by Mark Endert and Russ Kunkel.
The inspiration for the album’s tracks came when Adam was living in New York and his relationship with Jane Herman, his ex-girlfriend.
Levine explained the story behind the album, ” I saw this girl at a gas station, and I fell in love with her,” adding. ” I wrote a song about her and played it in the store where she worked. It was an awful song. But she found out about this relatively psychotic boy. She was my muse for years. . . . And then it kind of faded away. ”
The album has been certified 6x Platinum in the United Kingdom and 5x Platinum in the United States, New Zealand and Australia. As of 2015, Songs About Jane has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
The lead single, ” Harder to Breathe ” was released on the 9th of July 2002. It slowly gained airplay which helped sales of the album. The song reached number eighteen on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. With sales of over 1,300,000, it has been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ).
Outside of the United States, the single reached number thirteen on the UK Singles Chart in January 2004. It also made the charts in the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.
Songs About Jane was a commercial success for Maroon 5. In the United States, the album reached number six on the Billboard 200, spending 157 weeks on the chart there. Additionally, Songs About Jane reached the Top Ten in seventeen other countries.
The album topped international charts including Australia, France, New Zealand, Ireland and the United Kingdom, where it spent one week at the top and eighty-eight weeks on the chart.

The group, from Los Angeles, California, United States, were initially called Kara’s Flowers.
