Spirit Of The Hawk Album is by Leo Rojas, the Ecuadorian musician.
His debut studio album was released on the 27th of January 2012 under the record label Ariola Germany, now part of Sony Music Entertainment.
Production for the album was by Dieter Bohlen, the German musician, songwriter and record producer.
Born on the 7th of February 1954, he is best known as part of the duo Modern Talking with Thomas Anders.
As a producer, he has worked with a variety of recording artists including Bonnie Tyler, C. C. Catch, Errol Brown and Les McKeown, the former lead singer with the 1970s band Bay City Rollers.
Dieter Bohlen has also been a judge on German talent shows Deutschland Sucht den Superstar ( Germany Seeks the Superstar ) and Das Supertalent. The latter is part of the Got Talent TV talent show franchise created by Simon Cowell and Ken Warwick.
The album features twelve songs, which include covers of songs from the movies, Dances with Wolves and The Last of the Mohicans.
It also includes Leo Rojas’ interpretation of Martin Böttcher’s Winnetou, which in turn was inspired by the fictional Native American Chief of the same name.
The character, which made its debut in 1875 in the novel Old Firehand, was created by one of the Best-selling German writers of all time, Karl May.
Leo Rojas has also included his reworking of two well-known pieces of music. Track two on the album is ” Einsamer Hirte ( The Lonely Shepherd ) “. The song was a number twenty-two hit in Germany for German composer James Last and Gheorghe Zamfir, the Romanian pan flautist.
Leo Rojas took his cover to number sixty-nine in Austria, spending one week on the chart there.
Track nine on the Spirit Of The Hawk album is a version of Bette Midler’s ” The Rose “. The song was initially played with the closing credits for the 1979 film of the same name.
Released as a single in 1980, it reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. The song won Bette Midler a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1981.
The most well-known musical piece on the album is ” El Condor Pasa ( The Condor Passes ) “. The musical piece was composed in 1913 by Daniel Alomía Robles, the Peruvian composer.
The music has been recorded in various versions over four thousand times worldwide. The piece is so important to the people of Peru, the Government declared the work part of the country’s cultural heritage in 2004.
” El Condor Pasa ” became the most widely known Peruvian song outside of the country when Simon & Garfunkel covered it for their 1970 album, Bridge over Troubled Water.
Simon & Garfunkel’s cover version, called ” El Condor Pasa ( If I Could ) “, topped the charts in Germany, Austria, Holland and Australia.
In the United States, it peaked at number eighteen on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Spirit Of The Hawk album became a successful release for Leo Rojas in Germany. On the 18th of February, it reached number two on the German album chart, spending four weeks on there. The album also reached number three in Austria and five in Switzerland.
About Leo Rojas
Juan Leonardo Santillia Rojas is an Ecuadorian Panpipe and traditional musician.
Born on the 18th of October 1984, he left his family in Ecuador and relocated to Spain. From there he made frequent visits to Germany, finally settling in the country with his Polish wife.
While living in Berlin, he would often perform in the streets around the capital. It was while he was playing a passer-by told him about the German talent show Das Supertalent. The show is part of the worldwide Got Talent franchise started by Simon Cowell and Ken Warwick.
Leo Rojas applied to the show and became a contestant for the fifth season, which began airing on the 16th of September 2011.
He made it into the semi-finals with his version of ” El Condór Pasa “. Written in 1913 by Daniel Alomía Robles, it is considered by the people of Peru to be their second national anthem.
The song is best-known in English speaking countries as the Simon & Garfunkel 1970 cover called ” El Cóndor Pasa ( If I Could ) “, taken from Bridge over Troubled Water, their multi-million selling album.
Leo Rojas reached the final, which was aired on the 17th of December 2011. He chose to perform his rendition of ” Einsamer Hirte ( The Lonely Shepherd ) “, a song written by James Last.
He won the final by a comfortable margin over second-place Sven Müller. Leo Rojas released his winning song after his victory, which made number forty-eight in Germany during Christmas week.
After the success of his debut album, Spirit of the Hawk, which has been certified Gold in Germany, Leo Rojas has gained popularity, not just in Germany but the world over.
To date, Leo Rojas’ Album releases are five studio albums. He has also released three singles.
