About Steps

Steps, the British dance-pop group, is made up of Claire Richards, Lee Latchford-Evans, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer and Ian ‘H’ Watkins.
Put together in May 1997 by Tim Byrne, Barry Upton and Steve Crosby, after they placed an advert in The Stage magazine.
The quintet’s management had lined up a string of songs similar to their debut “5,6,7,8 “. The plans were shelved when Pete Waterman, who had a series of hits in the 80s and 90s with the likes of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, became involved in the project.
The group’s name comes from the dance routines associated with the music videos, with the moves often provided on each release for fans to copy.
Steps have notched up worldwide record sales of over 20 million. They have achieved chart success with fourteen consecutive Top Five singles in the United Kingdom, including two chart-topping singles, one of which was a double A-side.
In Addition to their UK chart success, many of their records have become hits throughout Europe.
The members disbanded on the 26th of December 2001 after H & Claire left. In 2017, Steps reformed with all the original members.
