Thank You Album is by Meghan Trainor, the American singer-songwriter. Her second major-label studio album was released on the 6th of May 2016 via Apple Music and later on the 13th of May 2016 under the Epic Records and Sony Music Entertainment record labels.
Upon release, the album received mixed reviews in the music press. AllMusic‘s Stephen Thomas Erlewine gave a positive review writing ” She’s smart to keep things light and positive–it’s a deliberately youthful sound in an era that yearns for maturity–but by working the same territory so carefully, the seams in her construction are difficult to ignore. ” Michael Cragg of the British newspaper The Observer was a bit more negative saying ” Trainor just isn’t a convincing pop star. While the Britney-lite lead single No has its moments, most of the other songs are identity-free filler. ”
The Thank You album, with all the tracks co-written by Meghan Trainor, is a mixture of dance-pop and R&B. Along with executive producer Ricky Reed, she worked with an array of artists and record producers, including Rock City, the American musical duo. In addition to working with Meghan Trainor, the pair has worked with artists like Usher, Sean Kingston, Ashlee Simpson, Nicole Scherzinger and Mary J. Blige.
The lead single, ” No “, was released on the 4th of March 2016. Written by Meghan Trainor, Ricky Reed ( Eric Frederic ) and Jacob Kasher Hindlin, the single drew some inspiration from Doo-wop, a type of rhythm and blues developed by African American youths in the 1940s. The single, which according to some music critics had similarities to 90s pop artists such as Britney Spears and NSYNC, became a successful release for Meghan Trainor.
In the United States, ” No ” peaked at number three on the 16th of April 2016 on the Billboard Hot 100, it spent twenty weeks on the chart there. Other Billboard Chart positions were sixteen on the Adult Contemporary, six on the Adult Top 40, forty on the Dance Club Songs, seven on the Mainstream Top 40 and twenty on the Rhythmic Chart.
In the United Kingdom, the single entered the UK Singles chart on the 17th of March 2016 and peaked at number eleven. It spent four weeks in the Top Twenty and sixteen weeks on the Top 100.
