The Foundation Album is by the Zac Brown Band, the American country-rock band.
Their debut, non-independent studio album, was released on the 18th of November 2008 under the record labels Home Grown and Big Picture Records. Distribution was by Atlantic Nashville, part of the Warner Music Group.
The album features twelve tracks, written or co-written by Zac Brown. The exception was the tracks ” Violin Intro To Free “, ” It’s Not OK ” and ” Jolene “, which were written by Jimmy De Martini, John Driskell Hopkins and Ray LaMontagne respectively.
The album was produced by Zac Brown with Keith Stegall, the multi-award-winning American country music singer, songwriter and record producer.
In addition to a successful recording career, Keith Stegall also co-wrote ” I Hate Everything “, a Hot Country Songs Chart Number One for George Strait. He also wrote ” Sexy Eyes “, Dr. Hook’s US and UK Top Five hit single.
He has also produced for the likes of Alan Jackson, George Jones, Ronnie Milsap and Terri Clark.
As of September 2015, sales in the United States have exceeded 3.4 million copies. It has been certified 5x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ). In Canada, the album has been awarded a Platinum disc.
In 2010, the Zac Brown Band received a nomination for a Grammy in the Best Country Album category. The same year, they had also been nominated for the Album of the Year award at the Country Music Awards.
The Foundation Album received mixed reviews from critics. A user of Sputnikmusic wrote the album has a ” feel-good country music formula is one that is proven to succeed “.
Mark Deming, reviewing for AllMusic, awarded the album three out of a possible five stars.
He wrote that the tracks had ” a calculated air of “something for everyone “. Adding that the album ” would be a bit more satisfying if more of it came from the heart instead of some sort of strategy session. “
The lead single, ” Chicken Fried “, was released on the 16th of June 2008 via CD and digital download. The single was written by Zac Brown and Wyatt Durrette, who has worked with Zak Brown on many occasions.
” Chicken Fried “, which took several years to write, was first recorded in 2003 and later re-recorded and released by the band.
Inspiration for the lyrics came from a list of southern characteristics and patriotism after the coordinated terrorist attacks on the United States on the 11th of September 2001.
The single peaked at number twenty on the 6th of December 2008 and spent twenty-five weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. It also topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart.
In Canada, the single made number fifty-two.
The Foundation album became commercially successful for the Zac Brown Band. The album reached number nine on the 8th of May 2010 and spent 289 weeks on the Billboard 200.
Other Billboard charts the album found success on was number two on the Top Country Albums and nine on the Digital Albums.

The band frontman and songwriter, Zachary Alexander Brown, was born on the 31st of July 1978 in Atlanta, the capital of the US state of Georgia.
The second youngest of a family of twelve children, he was given his mother’s guitar at the age of eight.
He took lessons and spent two years learning to play classical guitar, during which time he became interested in bluegrass music. When he was a teenager, Zac Brown spent almost twelve months receiving tutoring from a vocal coach.
While still attending South Forsyth High School in the city of Cumming, Georgia, he started playing solo gigs an venues around the area. His repertoire consisted of covers of country and pop songs.
Zac Brown Band’s big commercial break came with their debut single, ” Chicken Fried “. The single topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart in the US and reached number twenty on the Hot 100. It also reached number fifty-two in Canada.
After the success of the debut album, their second release, You Get What You Give, topped both the Billboard 200 and the Country Albums Chart.
It has been certified 3x Platinum in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ) for sales of over three million.
The next two albums released by the band, Uncaged and Jekyll + Hyde, also topped the Billboard 200 and both have been awarded a Platinum disc. Their fifth album, Welcome Home, peaked at number two.
To date, Zac Brown Band’s Album releases are seven studio, two live albums and one Compilation. They have also released two Extended Plays, twenty-three singles and eighteen music videos.
As a multi-award-winning recording artist, the Zac Brown Band has won several awards including three Grammys, two Academy of Country Music, two CMT Music and one British Country Music Association Award.
