Produced by Quincy Jones with co-production by Michael Jackson, the singer wrote four out of the nine tracks on the album, ” Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ “, ” The Girl Is Mine ” ( with Paul McCartney ), ” Beat It ” and ” Billie Jean “.
With a production budget of $750,000, it is similar in feel to Off the Wall, Michael Jackson’s successful previous album, which had sales of 20 million worldwide. The Thriller album, which is made up of pop, rock and funk, received positive reviews in the music press. ” Thriller ” became a successful release for Michael Jackson. In the United States, the single entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number twenty, rising to peak at number four. It also topped the Billboard Hot Black Albums Chart ( today is known as the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart ).
In the United Kingdom, it entered the UK Singles Chart on the 19th of November 1983 and peaked at number ten, spending ten weeks in the Top Twenty and fifty-five weeks on the Top 100.
