Used Heart for Sale Album is by Gary Allan, the American country music singer.
His debut studio album was released on the 24th of September 1996 under the record label Decca Nashville, part of the Universal Music Group.
The album, featuring ten tracks, was produced by Mark Wright and Byron Hill, the award-winning American songwriter and producer who has worked with a variety of recording artists including Johnny Lee, Ray Charles and George Strait. In 2018, Byron Hill was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Mark Wright is an American record producer and songwriter. He specialises in mostly country music. Although best known for his work with Brooks & Dunn, Lee Ann Womack and Gary Allan, he has also worked with Reba McEntire, Amy Grant and Kenny Rogers.
Mark Wright was nominated for a Grammy Award for co-producing ” I Hope You Dance “, Lee Ann Womack’s Billboard Hot Country Songs chart-topper.
The Used Heart for Sale album received lukewarm reviews upon release. AllMusic‘s Thom Owens awarded it three and a half stars out of five. He said the album was a ” competent set of neo-traditionalist country that occasionally comes to life. ” Adding that it was ” hampered by unimaginative material and timid performances. ” However he did praise Gary Allan saying the singer was ” capable of more. “
Some of the songs featured on the album are cover versions. ” Her Man ” was recorded previously by Waylon Jennings. It was featured on The Eagle album, which reached number nine on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart.
Also, Gary Allan covers David Houston’s 1965 number three hit single, ” Living in a House Full of Love ” and Faron Young’s ” Wine Me Up “, which reached number two on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart in 1969.
The Used Heart for Sale album was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ) on the 2nd of December 2004 for sales of 500,000 copies.
The lead single, ” Her Man “, was released on the 12th of August 1996. Written by Grammy Award nominee Kent Robbins, American country music singer Waylon Jennings first recorded it.
Lyrically, the song is about the narrator changing his lifestyle for the love of his life. The single had some success.
In the United States, it reached number seven on the 11th of January 1997 and spent twenty-three weeks on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart. In Canada, it reached number nine on the Canada Country Tracks RPM Chart.
Despite a lukewarm reception from music critics, the Used Heart for Sale album became a commercial success.
In the United States, the album peaked at number 136 on the 25th of January 1997 and spent sixteen weeks on the Billboard 200.
Other Billboard Chart positions were four on the Billboard Top Heatseekers and twenty on the Top Country Albums, where it spent forty weeks on the chart there.

Gary Allan Herzberg is an American country music singer and songwriter.
He was born on the 5th of December 1967 in the city of La Mirada, California, United States.
At the age of thirteen, Gary Allan started playing in honky tonk bars with Harley, his father. At the age of fifteen, he was offered a recording contract with A&M Records. He turned the offer down as his parents felt he should finish his education; also his father wanted him to develop a style more his own.
After graduating from High School, he played in bars with the Honky Tonk Wranglers, his band.
His Nashville move came after a wealthy couple wrote him a cheque for $12,000 to help fund his early career. The move to Nashville allowed Gary Allan to record some of his first songs, which were produced by Byron Hill.
The songs were shown to record labels who were interested, however, both Gary Allan and Byron Hill decided to sign with Decca.
Since then the singer-songwriter has sold over seven million albums and notched up over 270 million streams.
To date, Gary Allan’s Album releases are nine studio and two compilations. He has also released thirty-one singles and twenty-one music videos.
