White on Blonde Album is by Texas, the Scottish rock band. The band’s fourth studio album was released on the 3rd of February 1997 under the Mercury record label.
Recorded at studios in various locations including France, England and Scotland, it gained good reviews in the music press upon release.
The White on Blonde album is, to date, the most successful of their releases. It has been certified 6x Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry ( BPI ) for sales of over 1.8 million copies in the UK.
According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry ( IFPI ), worldwide sales are over four million. The album has been certified Gold in France, Sweden and Belgium. In Switzerland, it has been certified Platinum and in Spain 2x Platinum.
In the monthly music magazine, Q, published in the United Kingdom, the album found its way onto their 50 Best Albums of 1997 list and was voted into 86th place for the magazine’s 1998 Best Albums Of All Time poll. The magazine also ranked it at 34 in their Best 50 Albums of Q’s Lifetime and included it in the 90 Best Albums of the 1990s.
In 2010, the White on Blonde album gained a nominated for the BRIT Awards in the Best Album in the Past 25 Years category.
The first single, ” Say What You Want “, was released on the 6th of January 1997. The song’s composition uses Marvin Gaye’s ” Sexual Healing ” and Martika’s ” Love… Thy Will Be Done “.
The single is the band’s biggest hit to date, charting inside the Top Twenty in Australia. It also peaked inside the Top Forty in many countries of Europe.
In Scotland, it topped the chart there and in the UK, ” Say What You Want “, entered the UK Singles chart on the 18th of January 1997 and made it to number three. It stayed four weeks in the Top Ten and ten weeks on the chart and to date has sold over 450,000 copies in the country.
In The United States, the single reached number twenty-three on the Billboard Adult Top 40.
The White on Blonde album has been a commercial success for Texas. In the UK it topped the UK Albums Chart, spending two weeks at the top. It stayed in the Top Ten for forty-two weeks and has been on the chart for 112 weeks.
The album peaked at two in France and four in Spain. It also charted well in Australia, Austria, Holland, Germany, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.
Texas is a pop-rock band from Scotland. They took their name from the critically acclaimed 1984 road movie Paris, Texas, which was directed by Wim Wenders, the German filmmaker.
The group, which began in Glasgow, consists of Sharleen Spiteri, Ally McErlaine, Johnny McElhone, Eddie Campbell, Tony McGovern, Michael Bannister and Ross McFarlane.
Their debut single, ” I Don’t Want a Lover “, was released on the 23rd of January 1989 and again on the 9th of July 2001 as a remix. It reached number eight on the UK Singles Chart, spending eleven weeks in the Top 100. The remix peaked at number sixteen.
In the United States, the non-remix made seventy-seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked inside the Top Forty in other countries worldwide.
Their debut album, Southside, was released on the 13th of March 1989. It was certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry ( BPI ) after peaking at three on the UK Albums Chart.
The album reached eighty-eight in the US, fourteen in Australia, twenty-five in Holland, 181 in France, twenty-two in Germany, fourteen in New Zealand and Sweden. In Switzerland, it topped the chart there.
To date, Texas’ Album releases are nine studio, one live album, three compilations and one video album. They also released one EP, thirty-eight singles and thirty-eight music videos.
As an award-winning band, Texas has won one NRJ Music Award. They have been nominated for a Brit five times, once for an Ivor Novello, once for MTV Europe Music and Q magazine. As of 2017, their worldwide record sales are over 40 million.
After the release of the album Red Book in 2005, the band members decided that they would take a break. Lead singer pursued a solo career and appeared as a judge on British talent show Must Be the Music, broadcast on the Sky 1 channel.
In May 2017, Texas released their ninth studio album, Jump on Board. The album entered at the top of the Scottish Albums Chart and inside the Top Ten in France, Belgium and the UK.
